What can you do in Lanzarote when the weather isn't great?
Due to their location, off the west coast of Africa, The Canary Islands enjoy great weather all year round. This makes them a popular holiday destination for holiday makers from all over Northern Europe.
However, weather being weather, there is always a chance that you'll wake up to an overcast morning or even a drop of rain. In Lanzarote, it's not uncommon at certain times of the year for the day to start overcast, but the winds and heat of the sun quickly take care of the clouds leaving a glorious day fit for swimming in the sea and lazing on the beach.
But what if it doesn't clear? Here is a list of things to do in Lanzarote when the weather isn't great.
What can you do in Lanzarote when the weather isn't great?
Take a day trip or Excursion
There are plenty of activities and attractions in Lanzarote that are great fun, even when the weather isn't great. Although only a small island, Lanzarote has plenty to see and do via excursions, and they are great fun for all the family. One of the most popular excursions in Lanzarote is visiting the Timanfaya National Park. It's an area in the west of the island that was devastated by volcanic activity that ended in 1824. The day out to the national park gives visitors the opportunity to see the awe-inspiring lunar like landscapes, geyser demonstrations and witness the intense heat of the ground just meters below where you stand. There is a guided coach tour around the park with regular stop offs for photo and video opportunities.
When in the National Park there is also the opportunity for a camel ride. This might be more suitable for a family with children on a cloudy day as you don't have the intense heat of the sun on your back.
Visit the Gran Hotel for Coffee and Cake
The Gran Hotel in Arrecife is the only high rise building on the island. Following a huge fire 1994 it was eventually renovated and transformed into a luxurious hotel overlooking the city. On the 17th floor you'll find a cafe and restaurant where you can enjoy a snack or fine dining with spectacular views of the island.

Visit the Lanzarote Aquarium
A cloudy or rainy day provides the perfect opportunity to visit the Lanzarote Aquarium. Located in Costa Teguise, it's the largest indoor aquarium in the Canary Islands with over 1,000,000 liters of water and 33 aquariums packed with marine life. It's a fun and educational day out for all the family.

And if you're feeling brave and adventurous, why not take this bad weather day and use it as an opportunity to swim with Sharks at the Lanzarote Aquarium!
Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park
Visiting Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park is always a great day out no matter what the weather.
With live animal shows, a water park, donkeys, dolphins, sea lions, Cougars, Deer and White Tigers, Rancho Texas certainly isn't short of exciting things to see and do. They even offer the opportunity to swim, and interact with the Dolphins and the Sea Lions under the guidance of professionally trained instructors. A great way to create memories for all the family.

Rancho Texas can easily fill a whole day of fun for the family. It's located in Puerto del Carmen and free coach collection and drop-off is available for anyone staying in a different resort. In the evenings they also put on a superb Country and Western BBQ and Show, although this is separate to the access the day ticket provides.
Lanzarote Submarine Safari
And last, but no means least, on our list of things to do in Lanzarote when the weather isn't great, is taking a dive on a submarine. That's right, Lanzarote has its very own real submarine, one of just 15 commercial diving submarines in the world. Dive up to depths of 30 meters on this hour long trip to the bottom of the ocean. Discover marine life and shipwrecks on this exciting under water adventure.
